Notes & Reminders:
Weekly Learning:
Math: The grade 5 students have been relentlessly working on long division. We focused on using four steps to solve these problems:
Grade 4s have been focused on division facts. We have a number of ways to solve for division such as; using multiplication facts, drawing it out, skip counting, and counting backwards! We have also been playing with remainders.
Writing: We have been participating in the Young Writers Program with NanoWrimo. We are making stories using this online program and have been focused on our word count goals. Have them share their stories with you. This is a fun activity after a huge effort in our Opinion Unit. This will be wrapped up by the end of next week.
Social: We get to vote Tuesday! We have discussed why it is important to vote and why people have different opinions and why that is OK! We worked on building good sentences to express our thoughts and how we can respectfully disagree or agree with our peers. I have encouraged the students to participate in political discussions with adults or family.
Have a wonderful weekend! Please do not hesitate to contact with me with any questions or concerns.

- Wednesday April 17th is the Grade 5 Bake Sale. We appreciate your contribution for this event. The Grade 5 students will supervise this fundraiser (with the help of other adults). They will collect money and give change when needed.
- There is no school Friday April 9th.
- Division Quiz next Thursday for all students. We will focus on Facts, Word Problems, and for the Grade 5s - long division. Please check the Math resource page for videos. If you need more resources please let me know.
- Please return Grade 5 registration forms for Gilbert Paterson.
- Talent show forms are also due ASAP.
- I have sent home the students persuasive speech/essay. Have them read it out loud to an audience. They all did very well for their first time. Please give them your opinion on their speech. Were they convincing? How could they improve? We talked about this in class. I would also like these returned so I can have them as examples for another year.
