- There is no school Monday or Tuesday for students this week.
- Our practicum student Ms. Chang has begun to teach gym, health, art, and science. She will always be under my supervision and has brought a fun vibe to the class!
- Please do not forget to sign up for parent teacher interviews. I always invite students to come to our interviews as they can take us through their work, celebrate success, and communicate struggles.
Learning in the Classroom
- We have finished our current Social Studies unit - the geography of Alberta (Grade 4) and the Geography of Canada. The focus was to appreciate the diversity of Alberta and Canada in regards to ecological zones. Terms we learned were: Climate, Landforms, Vegetation, and Natural Resources. The students have presented their posters, and I must say they all did a great job!
- In science Ms. Chang has started to teach Electricity and Magnetism to the Grade 5s and Wheels & Levers to the Grade 4s.
- We have completed our Math unit focused on developing Number Sense. Students should be able to add, subtract, and estimate. Tests have been graded and will be handed back Wednesday. Grade 4s were working with numbers up to ten-thousand and grade 5s were working with numbers up to one million. We will now move into fractions and decimals. Keep in mind that we will never be "finished a unit" in math as we will continue to practice these skills throughout the year. This includes multiplication and division.
- Gym we have started badminton and in health we continue to learn about the food groups and what a balanced diet looks like.
- In French we are learning different vocabulary words around the classroom.
